The National Power Corporation (NPC) whose President and CEO chairs the Philippine National Committee on Large Dams (PNCOLD) has recently called on to the latter’s members to engage them in a technical seminar in San Manuel, Pangasinan.
Representatives from PNCOLD members that include the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), San Roque Power Corporation (SRPC), SN Aboitiz, CE Casecnan Water and Energy Company, Inc., Engineering and Development Corporation of the Philippines (EDCOP), and the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) attended the said event.
NPC invited experts to discuss topics related to dam management. Dr. Martin Wieland, Chairman of the Committee on Seismic Aspects of Dam Design of the International Committee on Large Dams (ICOLD) talked about Earthquake Hazard and Seismic Design and Safety Aspects of Large Storage Dams. Mr. Ishmael Narag of PHILVOLCS discussed the Results of Seismic Monitoring of the SRPC Site and Vicinity from 2003 to 2013; Dam Safety Analyst and Instrumentation Specialist from New Zealand, Mr. Tim Logan and Mr. Nick Logan discoursed on Dam Monitoring Observations and Experiences from New Zealand; Mr. John Grimston of EDCOP presented the Angat Multipurpose Dam Remedial Works Project; and Mr. Jeric Codiñera discussed the San Roque Dam Performance after 12 Years.
The event also included the signing of the PNCOLD Declaration on the need for “Water Resources for Future Sustainable Development in the Philippines” and site visit to San Roque Dam and NIA Re-regulation Dam.
