NPCโs Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG), the group at the frontline of the Corporationโs electrification mandate in the off-grid, has recently convened its teams from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao to review and discuss pressing operational issues.
Hosted by the SPUG Visayas in Cebu City, the management team meeting aims to put the groups in sync regarding issues/situations confronting the operation of NPCโs 281 SPUG facilities. Among the topics discussed were decommissioning some facilities/ units, reviewing bidding documents, and updating the fuel oil storage tank task force, a unit created to assess the fuel and storage needs of the power plants to ensure continuous operations.
SPUG Vice President Rene B. Barruela who led the meeting emphasized the vital role of each team member in delivering electricity in around 200 areas in the country.
As mandated by Republic Act 9136 or the EPIRA law, NPC is tasked to energize far-flung and off-grid areas and provide associated power systems to ensure that progress also trickles into the countryside.
