NPC's Buhi-Barit Watershed Area Team has recently conducted a livelihood training for indigenous people (IP) in Barangay Iraya, Buhi, Camarines Sur to increase their knowledge and technical skills on propagating their Cacao and Pili seedlings.
The IPs were provided with seedlings earlier this year as part of the Agroforestry Family Approach program. In the training, they were also taught with proper implementation of Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT) which is a practical agroforestry scheme in the area due to its economic and ecological benefits.
NPC-BBWAT invited Jose Noel S. Villavicencio, a professor from Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, as resource person. He discussed in depth the practices in cacao propagation and SALT implementation.
The two-day training ended with words of appreciation from Barangay IrayaKagawad Soledad Aquino saying, ?we are thankful for this training that can help us grow our source of income.?
