Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Area Team (CLWAT) under the Watershed Management Department of the National Power Corporation (NPC) facilitated the Tree Planting Activity of the National Power Corporation – Office of the President, in their participation on the “G4ME – Goodness for Mother Earth” Program of NPC.

In attendance were eight OP Staff including President and CEO P. J. Benavidez. A total of 200 native tree seedlings were planted in the area.

Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Area Team (CLWAT)under the Watershed Management Department of National Power Corporation and DENR- CENRO Sta. Cruz initiated a meeting withLGU Lumban to discuss the proposed MOU between  NPC, DENR, LGU, Phil. Army and PNP. The purpose of the MOU is to address concerns on land speculation, buying and selling of lands, land occupancy problem, proliferation of informal settlers in Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Forest Reserve (CLWFR) and adjacent timberland areas.

Mayor Rolando G. Ubatay of Lumban was also invited to attend the August 29, 2019 meeting to be held in Governors Conference Hall, Old Laguna Provincial Capitol, Sta. Cruz, Lagunafor the final review of the said MOU.

Problems on the existence of water lilies in Caliraya Lake was also discussed in the meeting. LGU Lumban offered to provide gasoline for the transport of the collected water lilies from Caliraya Lake to their Alipit landfill.

The purpose of the MOU is to have collaborative and concerted efforts among concerned government agencies and offices to address concerns on land speculation, buying and selling of lands, land occupancy problem, proliferation of informal settlers in Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Forest Reserve (CLWFR) and adjacent timberland areas.

All Dept. Heads of LGU Paete were present during the meeting and they were encouraged to propose site for rehabilitation project for possible UC-EC Funding as well as the inclusions of nursery establishment in Paete Laguna.

Mayor Rojilyn Q. Bagabaldoof Paete was also invited to attend the August 29, 2019 meeting to be held in Governors Conference Hall, Old Laguna Provincial Capitol, Sta. Cruz, Lagunafor the final review of the said MOU.

Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Area Team (CLWAT)under the Watershed Management Department of National Power Corporation withDENR, PG-ENRO, Phil. Army, PNP and LGUs (Cavinti, Kalayaan, Lumban and Paete) reviewed the proposed MOU for the protection and conservation of Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Forest Reserve and adjacent timberland areas.

During the review of MOU all concerned government agencies committed their unwavering concern for the environmentandCaliraya-Lumot Watershed Forest Reserve and agreed to execute the MOU to finalize the collaborative and concerted efforts among concerned government agencies and offices. It was also agreed to sign the MOU on October 4, 2019 in Governor’s Conference Hall, Laguna Capitol, Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Some issues and concern were also discussed during the meeting such as; the alleged disposal of chemical waste in So. Papatahanthat leaks in the bodies of water during heavy rains, they believed that the said chemical is harmful for the environment. With that information, the group headed to the site in So. Papatahanto conduct an inspection. LGU Kalayaan, also requested the copy of boundaries of Proclamation Nos. 573 and 1579 and list of lot numbers affected by the proclamations.
