The Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Area Team (CLWAT), in coordination with the Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Ecological Community and 202nd Infantry Unifier Brigade of Philippine Army, facilitated the conduct of  Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) training last November 4-6, 2019. The training took place at the Headquarters of 202nd Infantry Brigade in Brgy. West Talaongan, Cavinti, Laguna.

It was participated by a total of twenty three (23) delegates comprised of thirteen (13) from different resorts in Caliraya and Lumot Lakes, four (4) from Philippine Army and two (2) from Philippine Air Force.

Lectures and demonstration of swimming techniques were done during the first day of the training while the lecture and basic water survival and life saving techniques were given on the second day. The participants also underwent practical exercises in a 20ft. swimming pool in Caliraya Resort Club as part of the day 2 activities.

On the last day of the training, participants undergone a 800 meters swim in Caliraya Lake. The three days training ended with a closing ceremony and distribution of certificates to those who participated and completed the requirements.

The Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Ecological Community (CLWEC) conducted its Executive Committee Meeting at Mountain Lake Resort in Brgy. East Talaongan in Cavinti, Laguna last October 30, 2019.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss updates and accomplishments of each of its committees for the month of October and also to discuss other issues and concerns with regards to the protection and conservation of the Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Forest Reserve and its surrounding areas. Details regarding the conduct of the Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) training, which will be facilitated by the Lake Safety Committee, were also discussed during the meeting.

Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Area Team (CLWAT) under the Watershed Management Department of the National Power Corporation (NPC) conducted a regular monitoring on Tiger Grass Establishment and Softbroom Making Livelihood Project of Sitio Calminaue Upland Farmers Association (SCUFA).

The purpose of the activity is to determine the status of the established Tiger Grass plantations. Also for the updates on the progress and development of the association and project.

Established Tiger Grass plantations exhibit improvement and development. Tiger Grass exhibits good growth, good foliage, produces more clumps, stems are getting bigger, and starting to produce panicles for flowering. Some of the members were able to harvest Tiger Grass panicles/flowers for soft broom making last March to June. Currently, members are waiting for the Tiger Grass to produce new panicles and flowers for their next harvest.

Watershed Management Department of the National Power Corporation (NPC) conducted regular monitoring of the Pandan Weaving and Handicraft Making Project and attended the monthly meeting of Sitio Patula Farmers Association (SPFA) – one of the beneficiaries of Community Development Projects of CLWAT.

The purpose of the meeting is to determine the status of the livelihood project and status of the association. Also, to provide technical assistance on the Pandan Weaving and Handicraft Making Project of the CLWAT.

Various vegetable seeds from the Municipal Agriculturists Office of Cavinti, Laguna were given to SPFA for the establishment of vegetable garden. During the regular monitoring, CLWAT field personnel provided assistance to all SPFA members during the conduct of site preparation of their garden. Thereafter, various vegetable seeds were distributed to SPFA members to start seed pre-germination in their backyards. And as agreement during the meeting, on October 19, 2019, all members through the assistance of CLWAT field personnel will conduct house to house visit and monitoring of their gardens.

The Cash-for-Work Program of LGU-Cavinti through Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) that was awarded to the SPFA will start on the second half of October 2019. Members of the association will prepare a farm lot for the said program to establish a vegetable farm.

Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Area Team (CLWAT) under the Watershed Management Department of the National Power Corporation (NPC) participated and provided assistance in the Clean-up Drive activity in Sitio Patula, Brgy. Cansuso, Cavinti, Laguna facilitated by Sitio Patula Farmers Association (SPFA) – one of the beneficiaries of NPC Livelihood Projects.

The purpose of the activity is to initiate cleanliness in Sitio Patula Road through brushing and maintaining the visibility of the road. The said activity prospered through the solidarity of various group from LGU-Cansuso, Samahan ng mga Kababaihan, Samahan ng mga Kalalakihan, Samahan ng mga Senior Citizen, Youth, and 4Ps Members.

As per Sitio Patula Farmers Association (SPFA), this kind of activity will be conducted every month to initiate cleanliness in their local community.
