Limao, Calauan, Laguna last June 26, 2018
In celebration of the World Environment Month, MBWAT formally launched its Seed Production Area (SPA) which highlights the dominant molave (Vitexparviflora) tree, a species likened to our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal in the poem “Like the Molave Tree” of Rafael Zulueta da Costa. The SPA is MBWAT’s initiative to comply with the provisions in the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DENR and NPC for the National Greening Program (NGP). The launching/tree planting activities showcased before the attendees and the public in general the importance of maintaining seed sources in support to the national greening endeavours.
The molave stand was first established by MBWAT in 2006 with the NPC-MakBan geothermal plants personnel as the participants. This was part of then NPC STAR Program which was originally envisioned to become the molave seed source of the unit. Hence, the dominance of the preferred species of molave. The molave stand/SPA is now on its 12th year of existence when the trees begin to flower and bear fruits as observed by the more than 50 participants of the event.
