Tree Marking and Inventory in Mt. Malaraya Forest Reserve
Mt. Malaraya-Malepunyo Watershed Protection Council (MMWPC), Lipa City ENRO, Municipal Agriculturist Office - Tiaong, Quezon, Aquino, Tiaong, Quezon, Ayusan II, Tiaong, Quezon and Atisan, San Pablo City conducted Tree Marking and Inventory in Mt. Malaraya Forest Reserve last June 27, 2018 at Mt. Malaraya Forest Reserve, Brgy. Malitlit, Lipa City.
In celebration of the World Environment Month, MBWAT once again organized a multi-sectoral team to continue the tree inventory and marking of trees in Mt. Malaraya Forest Reserve. The activity aims to protect the trees inside the MFR from tree poachers and charcoal makers. Since it was first done along the edge of the reserve, the incidence of poaching/charcoal making was observed to have dramatically declined. Trees marked/numbered remain standing as of the recent monitoring. Noticeably, farming/cultivation was limited only at the outside of the reserve.
A total of 162 trees were inventoried and marked with an approximate volume of 287.34 m3. To date, a total of 1,380 trees were marked in Mt. Malaraya.
