Foot Patrolling within the Remaining Forest Cover of Pantabangan-Carranglan Watershed Forest Reserve
Pantabangan-Carranglan Watershed Area Team (PCWAT), People’s Organizations and Barangay Officials of Sectors 1, 2 and 3 conducted Foot Patrolling within the Remaining Forest Cover of Pantabangan-Carranglan Watershed Forest Reserve last February 2, 7, 8, 13, 22 and 28, 2018 at So. Polpo, Medingen and Cauco, of Brgy. Bunga, Burgos and Salazar, Carranglan, Nueva Ecija (Sector 1 and 2), Brgy. Conversion, Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija and Brgy. Abuyo, Alfonso Castaneda, Nueva Vizcaya (Sector 3) to closely monitor the remaining forest cover within PCWFR using LAWIN cyber tracker application and to identify and deter any existing illegal activities present.
Foot patrolling and monitoring of forest was done within the Barangay Bunga, Burgos and Salazar in Sectors 1 and 2 and in Barangay Abuyo and Conversion in Sector 3. The identified forest condition of the Group 1 led by Forester Alma B. Catado is Open Cultivated to Advanced Secondary Forest with sparse to moderate regenerants. Each area was dominated by Benguet Pine, Balete and different kinds of Dipterocarp trees like Lauan and Palosapis. Rehabilitation projects (Mango and Narra plantation) of DENR-FMP were also seen near the monitored areas and are in good condition. Moreover, indication of wild life is strong as the group had seen scrapes and tracks of Philippine Warty Pig (Sus philippensis) or Baboy Ramo and an actual Philippine Hawk Eagle (Nisaetus philippensis) or Lawin soaring above the forest. On the other hand, the Group 2 led by Forester Rex T. Banca identified the monitored forest condition from Early Secondary to Old Growth Forest with sparse to moderate regenerants.
