With the theme and battlecry, Buhay at Ari-arian ay Pahalagahan, Ibayong Pag-iingat sa Sunog ay sa Sariling Pamamahay Simulan, the National Power Corporation (NPC) through the San Roque Watershed Management (SRWAT) spearheaded the conduct of fire safety management trainings in two Secondary schools of Itogon, Benguet on March 17 and 21, respectively.

A total of 700 participants attended the trainings, with 450 and 250 participants at Ampucao National High School and Laurencio Fianza National High School. The crowd was composed of schools faculty members, students, and Bureau of Fire Protection Officials, LGU- Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officers, and Philex Mines Corporation representatives.

The said activity aimed to arm school age youths with fire prevention and suppression skills as fire incidences may occur in their homes, schools and their surroundings that includes the forests. Part of the municipality is a watershed reservation manned by the SRWAT.

Senior Forest Ranger Marshall I. Wasit shared the importance of watershed and pointed out ways to prevent occurrence of fires in the forests especially during outdoor meals and other activities.

Meanwhile, SRWAT Section Chief, Mendel S. Garcia lauded the efforts of partner agencies, especially the students who are expected to continue the advocacy of forest protection from forest fires and other adversities.

?Before, we needed to avert climate change. Then later on, we needed to mitigate it. Now, we need to adapt with it. It's the new normal, Garcia remarked.

The said activity is in line with the national observance of Fire Prevention Month every month of March.
