With an aim of raising participation of local communities in forest fire prevention, the NPC?s San Roque Watershed Area Team (SRWAT) conducted a series of fire prevention and suppression seminar in five barangays in Pangasinan.
A total of 230 residents from the communities of Brgy. Ampucao, Brgy. San Felipe East & San Felipe West in San Nicolas; Brgy. San Bonifacio and Brgy. San Roque in San Manuel, Pangasinan attended the seminar. The participants learned about the equipment/tools and techniques in suppressing forest fire.
SRWAT?s Community Relations Officer Ofelia Rovillos said that forest fires rarely occur in the watershed. However, fires tend to happen in nearby areas and so the seminar was conducted to make their personnel and the residents knowledgeable on the right things to do in such instances.
The San Roque watershed supports the private sector-operated San Roque Hydropower Plant. It is one of the 11 watershed reservations under NPC management.
