Mauro L. Marcelo, Jr.
(Retired) Department Manager
Asset Preservation, RMS

The year was 1979. He was looking for something different and rare and found it at National Power Corporation – nuclear energy.

Mahilig ako sa hindi common at conventional, so when NPC was exploring nuclear energy then, I was attracted and applied,” Sir Mao shared on his last day in office.

On the same day, he also expressed his gratitude for NPC for the mountain of blessings he received through it – ‘nagkaroon ako ng bahay, sasakyan, nakapag-travel and gained professional advancement.’

Asked on a memorable struggle he had at work, Sir Mao talked about being assigned to be the Asset Preservation Department Manager in 2003 after the implementation of EPIRA.

“There were lot of issues then for me to work on – legal and personnel issues. Ginusto ko na mag-resign pero sa tulong at encouragement ng mga kasama ko, we were all able to surpass it,” he said.

With 38 years of service with NPC, Sir Mao realized that the most important lesson he learned was being diligent towards work. ‘Kung pa-easy-easy lang, problems will surely arise. Dapat pag-aaaralan mabuti ang trabaho and maging responsible as you go up [the corporate ladder].’

If ever he will be remembered in NPC and the energy industry, he wants to be remembered as the ‘nuclear guy.’
