NPC lights up Casian Island in Taytay, Palawan

Residents of Casian Island in Taytay, Palawan are now enjoying 8 hours of electricity as NPC inaugurates its power plant in the area on October 25, 2018.

The ceremonial launching was graced by Palawan Governor Jose Ch. Alvarez, Taytay Mayor Romy Salvame, local officials and residents, NPC’s Vice President for SPUG Atty. Rogel T. Teves and NPC’s Palawan Operations Division team. The program to remember the ‘milestone’ was held in the island’s lone elementary school’s covered court.

The project was made possible through the cooperation of the Palawan Provincial Government who provided for the power house and the Palawan Electric Cooperative who assisted in the construction and installation of the distribution facilities.

Engr. Larry Sabellina of NPC POD said that there is already a 70 initial household connected and there are 180 more potential household connections.

A good 7 hour ride from Puerto Princesa, Casian is a barangay island whose residents thrive in fishing and kasoy farming. The barangay also has two pearl farms.
