Heeding the request of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) for a dialogue on the NPC programs and projects that have an impact on indigenous peoples, NPC President Ma. Gladys Cruz-Sta. Rita and Watershed Management Department Manager Emmanuel Umali met the NCIP commissioners on 09 September 2015.
Held at the NCIP office in Quezon City, Mr. Umali presented the programs that benefit the indigenous people residing in the watershed systems that NPC manages. These programs include seedlings dispersal, trainings, coffee plantation establishment, animal dispersal, and reforestation.
At the end of the presentation, both government agencies agreed to harmonize its functions and management plans for the people it serves.
NCIP Commissioners present were Ms. Zenaida H. Pawid, Atty. Percy A. Brawner, Mr. Bayani D. Sumaoang, Ms. Dionesia O. Banua, Mr. Cosme M. Lambayon and Ms. Era C. España.
Ms. Lee T. Arroyo, the agency’s Executive Diretor and IP representatives were also present during the discussion which was presided by Hon. Leonor O. Quintayo.
