The National Power Corporation has further reduced the amount of water being spilled by Angat Dam to 75 percent effective at 1 pm today, December 22 since it started to spill last December 20.

The Angat Dam has reduced the gate opening of Gates 1,2 and 3 for a total of 1.5 meters from 2.5 meters releasing an estimated of 210 cubic meters per second (cms) of water. Another 150 cms of water are being deducted from the spill, or roughly a total of 75% reduction when the Angat Dam started to spill water last December 20. The reduction of spill is to mitigate the flooding in some towns in Bulacan and to save water in anticipation of El Nino next year.

The decision to further reduce the spill came after the emergency Inter-agency Coordination Meeting this morning. The group agreed to further reduce the dam spill today after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) informed the officers involved in the meeting that there are no weather disturbances in the next 5 days. In attendance are top officials and managers of the NPC, PAGASA, National Water Resources Board (NWRB), Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), and National Irrigation Administration (NIA).

As of 1 pm today, the Angat Dam has a current water elevation level of 215.13.

Please be on the alert and take necessary precautions.
