A Rufous-bellied eagle gets rescued from Tiwi Geothermal Reservation (January 19, 2022)

NPC’s Tiwi Watershed Area Team (TWAT) has recently rescued and facilitated the turn-over of a Rufous-bellied eagle to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Albay.

Upon receiving a report from the Philippine Geothermal Production Company (PGPC) that wildlife has been in possession by a private citizen, TWAT immediately verified the report and coordinated with the bird’s temporary caretaker.

TWAT then initiated a meeting with DENR-PENRO, PGPC, and Tiwi’s Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office who all agreed that the bird be transferred to PENRO for comprehensive identification and better welfare management.

On top of its missionary electrification mandate, NPC also manages 11 watershed reservations in the country that support power generation through rehabilitation projects and protection programs. One of these is the Tiwi Watershed which covers a vast expanse of a land area measuring about 17, 661 hectares.
