NPC signs MOA with Ifugao LGU and DILG for Magat Sub-Watershed Management Project

The National Power Corporation (NPC) on Friday , June 3 signs a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Provincial Government of Ifugao and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the Magat

Sub-Watershed Management Project.

NPC OIC Atty. Melchor Ridulme and Watershed Management Department Manager Emmanuel Umali welcomed Ifugao Governor Jerry U. Dalipog at the NPC Board Room for the signing and a brief discussion on the project. DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año has earlier signed the MOA. (The inclusion of DILG as a signatory was recommended by the NP Board Review Committee to ensure the sustainability and continuous monitoring of the program.)

The Magat Sub-Watershed Management project covers several activities including community development, capacity building, infrastructure development, and watershed rehabilitation. Pilot projects will cover sub-watersehd M2b covering barangays Hucan and Bolog of Kiangan, and sub-watershed M2c covering barangays Bimpal, Sanafe, Hapid and Payawan of Lamut. The project was requested by the Provincial Government of Ifugao and is supported by NPC’s Plan 9 Petition for the Universal Charge – Environmental Charge approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission.

On top of its missionary electrification mandate, NPC is also mandated to manage 11 watershed reservations in the country that support power generation. Magat watershed is one of these and is being co-managed by NPC with the National Irrigation Administration.
