Sec. Cusi leads energization of Napocor’s new 5MW generating sets in Marinduque
Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi on Friday leads the ceremonial switch-on of NPC's new 5 MW additional capacity for the 52,000 households of this island province.
Sec. Cusi said that the upgrading of the power supply in the province is a welcome development since the island’s current power demand of 9MW will double in the next five years.
“With such increasing power requirements, we need to re-think our current electric power infrastructure to introduce more innovative strategies in ensuring the provision of an adequate electricity supply while securing the lowest rate,” he said encouraging permanent and long term measures in providing stable and affordable power.
Meanwhile, NPC President and CEO Pio J. Benavidez said that the additional 5 MW generating sets will allow its Boac Diesel Power Plant (DPP) to meet the increasing demand and sustain its 24 hour operations in the island along with other Napocor power facilities – the Torrijos DPP and Power Barge 120.
Benavidez also announced that another 4MW capacity will be bid out next year for the island which is expected to go online in 2019.
Also present in the event were Marinduque Congressman Lord Allan Velasco, Governor Carmencita Reyes, local Mayors and baranggay officials.
