On top of their regular meeting on improving watershed protection measures, the Angat Watershed Area Team and the Bantay Watershed Task Force conducted a cleanup drive and tree planting in Barangay San Lorenzo, Norzagaray in Bulacan on July 27, 2017.

Aimed at reducing their carbon footprints, the team also tapped local government units and students from the NPC High School to join them in planting at least 1,360 seedlings of indigenous species. These seedlings included species such as Guijo (Shorea guiso), Kalumpit (Terminalia microcarpa), (Dao (Dracontomelon dao), Rain Tree (Samanea saman) and Balobo (Diplodiscus paniculatus). They planted in a hectare of kaingin at Tailrace, Sitio Bitbit in Barangay San Lorenzo.

The Municipality of Norzagaray is one of the host communities of Angat Dam and Watershed. Angat Dam is the source of Metro Manila’s domestic water supply, Bulacan and Pampanga’s irrigation for its thousands of hectares of farmland and aids the power generation of the Angat Hydroelectric Power Plant. The watershed is one of the most preserved watersheds in the country with a forest cover of 89% of its total area of 57,994 hectares.
