Napocor deploys additional gensets to top destinations in Palawan


State-firm National Power Corporation on Wednesday inaugurates four (4) 600 kW additional generating sets for its power facilities in the towns of San Vicente and El Nido in Palawan to respond to its growing power demand.

“As premiere destination among local and foreign tourists, there is a significant increase in power demand in these areas every year,” said Napocor President and CEO Pio J. Benavidez.

Napocor said that for its San Vicente Diesel Power Plant, the two open type generating sets will bring the total dependable capacity to 1940 kW which is enough to address the peak demand of 676 kW. The El Nido Diesel Power Plant on the other hand will now have 4,050 total dependable capacity which is sufficient to supply the 3,825 kW demand.

Both power plants operate at 24 hours and service around 4,500 families and 500 commercial establishments.

Other than Boracay, Cebu and Bohol, El Nido has always been a favorite destination in the country due to its crystal clear waters and amazing landscapes. Meanwhile, San Vicente, Palawan is now becoming popular too for being home to the country’s longest white beach. Long Beach in San Vicente is a 14.7 kilometer stretch of white shore that straddles along three barangays.

Napocor is set to deploy more gensets in its Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) plants in Palawan as part of its capacity addition program this year. Areas to receive additional power are Araceli, Rizal, Balabac, Cagayancillo, Agutaya, Culion and Linapacan. END
