On October 5, 2024, NPC led the inauguration and energization ceremony of Tabawan Diesel Power Plant and distribution lines in Tabawan Island, South Ubian, Tawi-Tawi. This will initially provide power to barangay Pampang, Bengkol, Tang-ngah, and Lambi-Lambian.
The ceremony was graced by Mayor Hadzri “Khaf” Matba of South Ubian, Mayor Rhodesia Matolo-Sali of Sapa-Sapa, Governor Yshmael “Mang” Sali of Tawi-Tawi, South Ubian’s Sangguniang Bayan, representatives from Mindanao Development Authority (MINDA), NPC officials, and other local and provincial officials.
“Iya bay angan-angan tam sambatan timpu kastila gi’ itiya’ na (The best things in life are worth waiting for)”, Mayor Hadzri said during her speech, expressing his gratitude to the new power plant. he said. He also said this NPC undertaking will change the lives of the community bringing economic growth, new opportunities, and an improved quality of life.
3 units of 50 kW modular generating sets and distribution lines were energized, making electricity accessible to some 250 households with a population of 12,583 (2020 Census). Governor Yshmael stated in his address how this project holds a potential not just for South Ubian, but for the entire province.
The completion of the Tabawan Diesel Power Plant marks a significant milestone for the island’s progress and reflects NPC’s mission to deliver reliable power to off-grid areas.
