NPC renovates dam office in Itogon, Benguet

As part of the continuous upgrading of its flood forecasting and warning systems facilities, NPC on March 4 inaugurated its newly renovated and expanded Binga Dam Office in Barangay Tinongdan, Itogon, Benguet.

The office serves as the hub of NPC’s hydrologists and dam personnel who monitor water levels and weather disturbances.

The Ambukalo and Binga dams, while owned and operated by SN Aboitiz Power-Benguet, is overseen, and operated by NPC once the three conditions are met – accumulation of more than 50 millimeters of rainfall at any of the installed rain gauges, the influx of at least 500 cubic meters per second in Ambuklao Dam and proximity of a tropical cyclone into a certain distance from the dams.

Along with Ambuklao and Binga, NPC also oversees the operation of three other large dams in Luzon, namely Angat, Caliraya-Lumot and San Roque dams. NPC holds semi-annual inspections of these dams to ensure their safety and conducts annual information campaigns to raise awareness on its dam operations including water spilling procedures.
