World Bank representatives and the National Power Corporation (Napocor) recently held the groundbreaking ceremonies of the European Union-funded rural network solar (RNS) projects in Sultan Kudarat and General Santos City.

The groundbreaking activities were graced by Mr. Inchul Hwang and Ms. Maria Luisa Martinez from the World Bank, Atty. Rogel T. Teves from Napocor, and local government and SUKELCO & SOCOTECO II officials.

The RNS project will install four (4) separate 1MWp grid-tied greenfield solar PV power plants in four locations and connect them to the distribution networks of Samar I & II Electric Cooperatives, South Cotabato II Electric Cooperative, and Sultan Kudarat Electric Cooperative.

โ€œThe project is part of the โ‚ฌ18.40 million grant of the European Union through the Access to Sustainable Energy Program (ASEP) to support our countryโ€™s goal of increasing access to energy. RNS aims to increase the renewable energy in far-flung communities and to promote the use of PV generation plants,โ€ said Project Head Engr. Godofredo B. Magpoc.

The installation of RNS in four sites was awarded to joint ventures of Gendiesel Philippines, Inc. and Roofsol Energy Pvt Ltd, Edward Marcs Philippines, Inc. and Atlantic Blue Sdn. Bhd, and to Sino Soar Hybrid Technology Co.Ltd.

Napocor said that this is the second project it facilitated under ASEP following the success and turnover of 30,500 solar home systems in six (6) electric cooperatives in Mindanao in September 2022.
