In July 2023, the National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) switched on two new power plants in Palawan as part of its commitment to providing reliable electricity in remote communities. The two new areas - the Maglalambay Diesel Power Plant in Busuanga and the Debangan DPP in Taytay were inaugurated, making electricity accessible to hundreds of households in the islands.

Maglalambay DPP has a dependable capacity of 50 kW with 284 households connected and 206 potential household connections. It was first energized on June 26, 2023, while the switch-on ceremony was held on July 17, 2023 attended by Mayor Elizabeth Cervantes of Busuanga, NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano C. Almeda, NPCโ€™s Engr. Frederick B. Barrios, Division Manager of Palawan Area; Provincial Engineering Office Project Facilitator Engr. Jepherd Jungco who represented Governor Dennis M. Socrates, Provincial Government of Palawan (PGP), other LGU and barangay personnel, and residents of Bgy. Maglalambay.

Meanwhile, Debangan DPP provides electricity to 120 households through its two units of 50 kW generating sets. It was commissioned on July 26, 2023.

Both power plants will operate for eight hours each day and will be maintained by two local operators who will be reporting daily to the Napocor - SPUG Palawan Operations. The distribution utility in Bgy. Maglalambay will be managed by Busuanga Island Electric Cooperative (BISELCO) while Bgy. Debangan will be maintained and operated by the Provincial Government of Palawan (PGP).

By bringing power to remote regions, the National Power Corporation has effectively paved the way for enhanced living standards and increased economic activities.

NPC, as mandated by the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001, is tasked to provide electricity and associated power components in off-grid islands and communities in the country.
